New Front Porch!
OK, so wouldn't ya know we're trying to sell our house to move somewhere cheaper so we can save money and our front patio collapses!
Some of the flagstones had been a little loose for a while but began to get noticeably "bouncy" late last Fall.
I decided what the heck? I'll pull up the loose ones, pour in some sand, and grout the stones back in place. Well I got more than I bargained for after I pulled them up and realized there was a large hollow space underneath.
One professional visit (read $$) and we realized the issue. The numbskulls who had remodeled our house 10 years ago (who have obviously cut corners everywhere) put the flagstone down on top of backerboard with concrete. The problem is the backerboard was laid on top of an old wooden porch dating back to 1921 when the house was built and from the weight of everything, it just deteriorated.
Enter Cassandra's Dad; carpenter and handy-man extraordinaire David Cardona and in 3 days he (with a lot of help from Danny and a little from yours truly) transformed the issue into a nice new wooden deck which I will be staining shortly.
Here's the photographic trail.
